I took this picture of Theo (my godfather) when he and my mom were recording the single "Toe die wêreld stil gaan staan" it was quite an awesome experience to witness and capture an entire song being created from conception to the final product, I even shot the music video! There's something uniquely creative when people come together to perform and create an art piece about struggle and tough times. Even though the hard lockdowns we faced and the uncertainty that had arisen the single showed me that when people come together to dance, play, create and express it simply opens an aura of bliss and happiness. And this picture represents just that: how we as people and humans can create art in difficult circumstances to escape the terrors of the world around us and bring the best of ourselves out. Ubuntu: "I am because you are" South Africans inherently share humanity and compassion towards each other, it is part of our culture, and the song my mom and godfather made represents that we are all in the same boat, the rainbow nation.
